Healthy eating allows your body to function properly and keep you fit. In addition, healthy food is important for maintaining weight and reducing the risk of chronic diseases. It also ensures the supply of vitamins and minerals, as well as fiber for proper bowel function and many other (bioactive) substances, all of which work together to maintain our resistance. In this article you will read about the basics of healthy eating.
Therefore, a rule of thumb for eating healthy is to eat a variety of foods at all times. This way you get all the necessary nutrients you need to live a healthy life.
It is advisable to avoid processed foods. This is mainly due to the fact that it is unnatural and therefore harder for your body to process. This causes many more physical problems than people currently link to food. Diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic intestinal problems, skin problems and more common illnesses often find their cause in wrong eating patterns. A healthy diet is the basis for an energetic life.
Healthy eating consists of:
- unsaturated fat instead of saturated fat
- little salt
- lots of fruit and vegetables
- wholemeal products
- skimmed and semi-skimmed milk(products),
- 30+ cheese
- unsalted nuts
- less meat, more vegetable
- beverages: tap water, tea and filter coffee.
Less meat and more whole grain cereals, legumes, vegetables, fruits and plant-based meat substitutes give a lower risk of cardiovascular disease.
It is such a shame that so many people are not consciously concerned with food, even though it is a basic necessity of life. For many, food has been relegated to something you shouldn't spend too much time on. This is cleverly exploited with convenience food. Food that no longer possesses the quality and quantity of nutrients that it used to (less than 50 years ago!) and is full of substances that we do not need for our health, on the contrary!
In short, nutrition is the basis for a healthy and fit body. Without a good base you cannot grow or improve. Therefore, devote sufficient time and attention to this and prepare yourself when a busy day arrives. Meal prepping can then be the perfect solution! More on this in the next article.
