When is food healthy?

What exactly is healthy food? And why is a healthy diet so important? Healthy eating is the foundation of our existence. A healthy diet is not only essential for feeling physically and mentally fit, it also reduces the risk of obesity and metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a name for a series of health conditions that are closely related.

When your metabolism (also known as metabolism) deteriorates, a variety of health problems can develop: you get fatter, your cholesterol levels deteriorate, your blood pressure goes up and your blood sugar rises. This is known as metabolic syndrome. The syndrome results from the combination of unhealthy eating and little exercise. If you want to know more about metabolism, you can find more info here .

Good nutrition

Good nutrition provides the body with sufficient energy and nutrients. Therefore, always make sure you have a good mix of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, fiber and enough fluids. Choose especially whole grain products, legumes, vegetables, fruits, nuts and fish. Choose and cook with fresh organic produce. Prefer not to take soft drinks and juice from the factory. However, home-pressed vegetable or fruit juices are a healthy choice. Use products high in saturated fatty acids and trans monounsaturated fatty acids as little as possible.

Supplements

In addition to proper nutrition, supplements can also help ensure you get the right and healthy nutrients. Consider Omega 3, for example. These supplements have a positive effect on the heart, brain and eyes. In addition, it has an anti-inflammatory effect on the muscles. If you eat little or no fish, you would do well to take an Omega 3 supplement. You can read more about the health benefits of Omega 3 here: What is Omega 3 good for?

Below we have selected 5 tips to get you on the road to a healthy lifestyle.

1. Healthy breakfast

Breakfast is very important. You slept through the night and haven't eaten or drunk anything for the past 8-10 hours. Your body now needs energy and nutrients to start the day. Eating breakfast will get your body started and help it process nutrition from the rest of the day. A healthy and nutritious breakfast might include a smoothie bowl, spelt bread, crackers, fruit or a breakfast shake with protein. For spreads, choose vegetables, fruit or lean meats. If you don't have time to eat breakfast at home, bring something healthy, such as a banana, yogurt or Homemade Ekopura granola bars. Need inspiration for a healthy breakfast? 2. Easy meal

Make sure you always have something healthy on hand, like a can of tuna, a jar of peas and tomato sauce. With these, you can quickly make a pasta sauce. Fill the freezer with fish, chicken, whole grain bread and frozen vegetables. Often when you are tired or very busy and still have to go to the supermarket, things go wrong. You are more likely to choose unhealthy comfort food because you don't feel like making an effort and then the pizza or ready-made meal from the supermarket looks really good. Did you know that with leftover vegetables and fish or chicken you can quickly make a tasty meal soup.

3. Organic and pure!

Everything you eat and drink determines how healthy your current lifestyle is. Therefore, always choose organic and pure products. The term organic refers to the way it is produced. Organic food is produced without the use of chemicals, hormones, antibiotics or genetic modification. An organic product should not contain any artificial additives.

Cutting out processed foods has tremendous health benefits. It gets rid of your sugar addiction and gives you more energy, plus a better night's sleep. This is also definitely reflected in your appearance. For example, skin ailments are reduced and you get glowing skin. Also, your teeth become cleaner and whiter because of all the chemical sugars that no longer affect your teeth. How nice is that!

4. The 80/20 rule

Try to live by the 80/20 method as much as possible. That means you eat healthy 80 percent of the time. And that 20% represents sinning. For example, eat healthy during the week so that you have room on the weekend to eat something less healthy. Because let's face it, who doesn't get happy from the occasional dessert, tasty pizza or other snack. Allowing yourself this makes it easier to maintain this lifestyle.

5. Eat a variety of foods

There is so much delicious food on this earth, so make use of it. Eat as varied as possible. One day rice, the other day a cereal such as buckwheat, bulghur or quinoa. Also vary a lot with different (seasonal) vegetables. Also match your breakfast, lunch and dinner. Had a heavy lunch? Then make a lighter dinner.
