EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are both polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids found in fish, specific types of algae and certain plants. The human body needs EPA and DHA for proper development and function.
More than 40,000 studies have been published on EPA and DHA, including many clinical studies. The majority of these studies support the consumption of Omega-3 for general well-being. It is good for cardiovascular function, brain function, vision, and vision and brain development in infants.
The recommended intake, supported by governments and scientific bodies around the world, is to consume a minimum of 250mg of EPA and DHA per day for overall health. For specific life stages or conditions, these amounts may be higher. In 2016, a study was done on the Omega-3 Index. This is the combined percentage of Omega-3 EPA and DHA in the membranes of red blood cells. This study found that about 80% of adults around the world consume significantly less EPA and DHA than recommended.
Which Omega 3 should I take, DHA or the new EPA+DHA?
It depends entirely on what your goal is with taking Omega 3. For example, the Omega 3 DHA good for brain and eye maintenance in adults and for brain and eye development in unborn and newborn babies.
Omega 3 EPA is additionally good for the functioning of the cardiovascular system. If you want to reap all the benefits of Omega 3 then we recommend Omega 3 DHA+EPA to use.

Algae oil vs. fish oil
Those who cannot or will not eat fish avoid a deficiency of Omega 3 with Ekopura Vegan Omega 3 Algae Oil. Algae oil has the same power as fish oil because algae is the natural source of Omega 3 from which fish also get it. By using Omega 3 from algae, you prevent overfishing and therefore destruction of the oceans.
Ekopura algae oil is made from farmed algae. Therefore, we can guarantee that the oil is 100% pure and free of pollution and contaminants. Our capsules are made from seaweed, not gelatin.
